Getting around & parking

Zagreb's centre is compact and walkable. Here's everything you need for trams, taxis, the airport — and the lowdown on parking.

Trams & buses (ZET)

Zagreb's blue trams and buses (run by ZET) cover the whole city — though in the centre almost everything is faster on foot.

Where to buy a ticket

Buy from any Tisak or iNovine kiosk, the ZET mobile app, or from the driver (a little more). Validate it in the on-board machine as soon as you board.

Prices

A single ticket (valid 30–90 minutes, one direction) is roughly €0.50–1.00. A 24-hour day ticket is about €2 and pays off after three rides.

When they run

Daytime trams run roughly 04:00–24:00; a network of night trams and buses takes over after midnight.

Most sights, restaurants and our apartments are within a 15-minute walk of the main square.

The funicular

The funicular

Uspinjača

The world's shortest public funicular links the Lower and Upper Town in under a minute — a fun ride and a local icon.

Taxis & ride-hailing

Bolt & Uber

Both apps work well across Zagreb and are usually the cheapest, most convenient option — a ride within the centre is just a few euros.

Regular taxis

Licensed taxi ranks sit at the main square, the train station and the bus station.

To & from the airport

Street parking

On-street parking in the centre is paid and split into colour-coded zones — worth understanding before you drive in.

The zones

The 1st (red) zone is the very centre: the priciest, and usually capped at a 2-hour maximum stay. The 2nd and 3rd zones further out are cheaper, with longer or no time limit.

1st zone ≈ €1–1.50/h

How to pay

Use a parking machine (card or coins), send an SMS with your licence plate to the number on the zone's sign, or pay in a parking app such as AydoPay or PayDo.

When it's free

Parking is generally free on Sundays and public holidays, and overnight — but always check the sign on your street, as zones and hours vary.

Overnight on-street parking in the 1st zone is tricky. For anything longer than a couple of hours, a garage is easier and safer.

Parking zones at a glance

The centre is divided into the 1st (red), 2nd (yellow) and 3rd (green) zones, each with its own rate and maximum stay. The official map shows exactly where each zone begins and ends.

Nearby garages

Covered, 24/7 and better value for longer stays. Walking times are approximate — tap a garage for exact directions.

Typical rates are around €1–2 per hour or €15–25 per day — check the current tariff on arrival.
